Responsible Gem Sourcing

April 7, 2017 by Mucklows

Responsibly mined, tracked, and audited at every stage from country of origin to polished stone.

Everything we do has an effect on the planet.

Mucklow’s Fine Jewelry has and will continue to seek out the most responsible business practices to minimize our impact on the environment and all of Earth’s inhabitants.

Our talented team of designers and artisans have always had an appreciation for the delicate world around us.

We’re proud of the fact that goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewelers have, since the very beginning, been the “original” recyclers.

Our Transparent “Earth Centered” Vendor Partners

Stuller CanadaMark Diamonds – Canada’s diamond mines yield a higher ratio of pristine, gem-quality diamonds in comparison to the output of other countries. They are noted for exceptional color, clarity, and luster, as well as low levels of fluorescence.

Every CanadaMark diamond is—

  • Responsibly mined in Canada’s Northwest Territories.
  • Natural and untreated.
  • Tracked through audited processes at every stage from country of origin to polished stone.
  • Polished to meet specific quality standards.
  • Guaranteed to come from conflict-free sources.

Stuller “Sensible Sourcing” Precious Metal Refinery – Gold and other precious metals should be mined and refined in a sustainable and responsible manner that respects both the needs of humanity and our environment.  Their position on responsible mining procedures goes much further than the gold mining process itself.  It encompasses all aspects of gold: appropriate mining methods on conservation, remediation and fair labor practices.

It also includes proper refining; correct handling of aqua regia acid, scrubbing fumes and clean emissions.  As proof of their commitment to sustainability, Stuller has earned a recycled content certification in an SCS audit.

SCS is a global leader in verification of environmental and sustainability claims with internationally recognized standards, and their certification ensures that all of Stuller’s manufactured metals – gold, silver, platinum, and palladium product are certified 100% recycled content.

Stuller Moissanite Option – Perfecting the gemstone it created 20 years ago, Charles & Colvard’s Forever One™ Moissanite is breathless and classic. More brilliant than a diamond, these man-made gemstones are as stunning as they are affordable. Charles & Colvard’s Forever One™ is offered in two grades, DEF colorless, and its equally stunning, GHI near-colorless.  As the original creator of created moissanite, Charles & Colvard holds its gemstones to the highest standard.

The American Mined Collection from Rio Grande – As American as a Gibson guitar or a Stetson hat, the American Mined Collection is a new line of faceted stones, cabochons and beads created for jewelers and metalsmiths who believe the source matters.  They combed the United States in search of the finest American gemstones, visiting artisan mines, meeting with enterprising do-it-yourself miners and examining hundreds of rough stones along the way.  The result is a collection of exceptional gems that allows you to trace a stone from the mine to your bench.

Columbia Gem House – Columbia Gem House was the first jewelry industry company to join the Fair Trade movement, it may not be the last.  One of the most important aspects of the Fair Trade Gems protocol is protection of the environment during mining, cutting, and jewelry manufacturing.  Columbia Gem House is a great resource for North American gems such as Montana Sapphire, Cortez Pearls, Fire Opal, Mesa Verde Peridot, Pink Tourmaline, Purple Sage Chalcedony, Red Garnet.

Mucklow’s Fine Jewelry is committed to conducting every facet of our operations in the most ethical, environmentally and socially responsible manner possible.
